ABOUT DURAM AND ZEST Duram was founded in 1981 to focus on the development of single pack polyurethane technology, starting with Duram 195, the world's first successful polyurethane tar waterproofing compound. Later this polyurethane technology was used by Duram to develop automotive and industrial products including Protecta-kote / Durabak, the world's first single pack heavy duty coating with applications such as loading areas, working decks and walkways; and Duram 88, the market leader in stone chip protection.In 1999 Zest Polyurethanes was established as a sister company to Duram in order to continue the development of polyurethane technology while Duram continued to focus on the development of a range of waterproofing coatings and innovative paints for the South African market. Market development skills contributed to our growth. Fresh ideas and attractive packaging saw Duram as the creative force behind the development of the modern retail waterproofing market in South Africa where we remain the market leader.
